Glenfarg St Andrews token
« on: March 16, 2015, 04:49:47 PM »
Nothing much to report on finds, lots of deep iron causing cuts in background threshold I feel there were potentially more finds in the 1st start field than the 2nd over the trackway, in field 2 I suspect there are some older bits and pieces to be found but I think most have sunk too deep to be recovered, needs ploughing, lol.
It was in field 2 that i heard a poor broken mixed tone target and decided to dig and found this 1730 St Andrews token? at about 8" (mans depth or 6" girls depth) , almost passed this signal by as to iffy to dig.

Happy for better ID, its uncleaned and the first of this type of token I have found

Hard digging all day and I ran out of steam searching up the hill towards the old church location, thanks go to Stan for providing the land and staff for the smooth running of this event , enjoyed chatting to various guys reference their machines, as always live and learn, nice to see a good feeling shared through a large gathering of detectorists on a difficult finds day.
This hobby brings the worst out in the ODD individual, however thankfully brings out the best in the majority of individuals.......Learnt by experience

Its an Edinburgh half-penny token Robin, and as such is likely to be 1790 in date ?  Cracking pics and a nice find  :)

Cracking find Robin, well done mate. And your photos are great. I was lucky to find a similar one a few weeks ago in St Andrews. :)

Good find Robin.   Old church site?  Didn't know there was one.
