thought it was a ring but>>>>>
« on: April 13, 2015, 06:50:51 PM »
I don't know , what this is ,it came out and first thought was a nice ring , but after a clean up and a closer inspection im thinking now it might be a part of a furnishing because of the small ridge part on one side , I did consider it might have been a ring fashioned from something during the trenches(war art) as the area I  found  it has thrown up a lot of ww1 military items ,( but then my imagination does go a little astray sometimes) .hopefully someone can shed some light or ideas to it , cheers again guys tam

Its a little confusing isnt it.   Certainly has the look of a ring but what would be the purpose of that extra moulding towards the back?   Interesting find though.

It is a ring as such, but was part of a toy water squirting  ring. similar to the one in the link below

...it could be a handle off a candle stick holder. I have seen a few come up and identified them, and the patterned part would be the thumb rest for when you pick it up.

Well that covers water and fire... Anyone for earth or air? (sooorry!)  ;D
Seriously, two really good suggestions... I'm more convinced by Mark's.

Bliemy the `ring` could be either of those two, both good ideas,....there is an easy way to solve it though, is the odd piece hollow?, if it is then its likely to be the squirty ring, if its not, then it could well be Dereks candle stick handle

I would go with the squirt ring ,looks like a water channel right round the outside & its not been dressed off in the inside (casting marks) so probably just a cheap fairground toy ,nice find though  8)

I found one very similar at  Kingsbarns,
Mine was def a squirty ring type because it was hollow from front to rear.

Tamhem if it was a squirty ring it would have an exit point for the water to come out which after a good check under a good mag it does not so my money would be on the candlestick thing.
