Well lads we did everything that was requested from us to do, to the letter. The amount of red tape we had to adhere to was there for everyone to see. Thanks for not posting find photographs on the DS forum, or any other media outlet as requested by the authorities. The survey itself may not have been what you expected. However we did metal detect on the Killiecrankie Battlefield site and not many detectorists can say that.

                                                                                     THANKS LADS !

Thanks Jim, finds were a bit disappointing but the crack was good.

I agree with budge not much in finds but the crack was good and the sun was shining, and your right Jim we can say that we detected the killiecrankie battle sight :-)

A good couple of days with a group of nice guys, fine weather and some detecting. Thanks again Jim for posting up the opportunity on the forum and liaising with the archeologists.

Yes Jim,

We done what was asked of us unfortunately it wasn’t really a complete survey let down with red tape as you say. But thanks for letting us take the opportunity to go into this historic battlefield site.
Nothing of interest so far...2016 there again not been out much...;)

Thoroughly enjoyed it although the first days hiking nearly killed me lol. Good laugh with the guys would certainly do it again just a pity about the red tape as you said Jim . However it was an honour to dig up at least a small piece of our history. Thanks again Jim. :)

Thought this download may interest those who participated in the survey. (2.4 of the download provides you with a record of what was found in the metal detecting survey of 2003) The late Jimmy McCreadie & Sandy Lyon (bagolead on the forum) were two of the lads who took part in the 2003 survey. Tony Pollard & Neil Oliver recorded an episode of "Two Men In A Trench" part of which was the 2003 metal detecting survey. Less than twenty metal detectorists (2003 & 2015 survey participants)  have had the privilege of surveying this battlefield site.

                                             The download isn't available

The most important part of the download I was referring to. A lot of really good work was carried out by the 2003 metal detecting team as you can see.

A great couple of days and thanks for arranging for the good weather as it may have been less enjoyable in the rain.
Thanks for the opportunity to participate in probably one of the last surveys of the battlefield  at least that part anyway.
I think that we accomplished what was asked of us - still, it was a pity about the remaining parts to which we did not get access.
Great weather, great camaraderie, great exercise.
See you all next time.

A wee note to remind volunteers that they will receive £30 per day for attending the survey. So if you attended two days £60 while those that attended only the one day will receive £30. The DS Admin have been contacted to provide an invoice for the work undertaken by the volunteers. So as quickly as the DS Admin team respond the sooner you will receive payment. Many thanks once again for taking part hopefully you will not be required to wait too long before Guard Archaeology receive the invoice from the DS Admin Team.

Just found this download about the Killiecrankie metal detecting survey and a map of the area (Coloured in Pink) that was  to be surveyed.

                  www.transportscotland.gov.uk/system/files/A9_Soldiers_Killiecrankie_4pp_July2015_v2.pdf

Makes you think dosen't it !  Either only a small part was completed or another group of metal detectorists did the remainder , although I doubt this.
