A good buy for someone, but wouldn't be too hasty. I used the Deus for over a year and have been using the CTX since April this year, the CTX,  IMO is a better machine. Never found so much silver. I still have the Deus but it is gathering dust.

I would persevere with the CTX mate.

Deus is a coke magnet

Only issue with not digging anything under 50 with the Deus is that your hammy tin will always be empty.
The CTX is king when it comes to coke, used to laugh when my detecting buddy was digging it all the time as it was in the hammy range.

He got rid of the Deus and is now a CTX convert.  :)

...the Deus is a great machine and excels on plough and stubble, because it does not mind air between it and the target. The number range will lie to you and on our various hoard sites the Deus has dug many hammered under 50 and sometime without any numbers showing at all. It all depends on depth, soil condition and the angle the target is lying at. Sharon uses the Deus and I have used it exclusively for around 9 months. You can hear the coke sound, but it also depends on the size of it, how deep it is, how much moisture it is holding and the shape of it. If you have a Deus then you will dig coke, or you will lose tagets, including hammered coins, although most hammies and other good non ferrous targets will come well above 50 and be a recognisable tone. The Deus has very colourful, information packed, tones, which you can learn over a period of time.

...the CTX dominates on pasture and does not hear coke, which is the reason I eventually changed for it. It will be outperformed by many single frequency machines on plough, especially the Deus, and stubble will also bring it level with a lot of machines if it cannot get close to the ground. The CTX aso has more bland tones which may suit someones hearing better, as it does mine (I prefer dig or no dig, and don't really attempt to ID the target much, as all I do is dig holes in fields and one more won't hurt me).

...to be honest, there is no one "do it all" machine and you have to learn your machine extremely well to get the best out of it, so you are going to dig lots of holes over a very long time. You can have a couple of machines, and the ultimate combination in my book would be the CTX (E-trac or Explorer II) + Deus (or T2, with the AT Pro and a couple of others getting a look in as well). If you want a specialist machine for specific targeting of hoard sites, highly mineralised soil, etc, then the MInelab GPX range, which are pulse technology would be my choice - I have tried Whites and Garrett pulses and they cannot come close to the Minelabs.

...to finish, both the Deus and the CTX have their own unique features, such as GPS and multiple frequency technology for the CTX, and lightness and changeable single frequency for the Deus. Both are wireless, waterproof and collapsible. So, it is really down to the land where you do most of your searching, the weight of the machine, and if you don't mind hearing coke or not.

Well said Derek. There is no fit all detector made yet !! Most are good in the conditions that suit them. :)

Hi Derek, is there a certain ground condition where you would use the t2 before the deus?

...not particularly, as far as I think the only real difference between the two machines, except the obvious cosmetic and technological things, is that the Deus gets deeper, so it would be a better choice for most ground conditions by that fact alone!

Well said derek, and thanks for the advice.

Ive very rarely had a decent target under 50 , mainly because its all coke but if it sounds great al dig it regardless.

thats weird, all my hammered with the deus were under 50, suppose it depends what frequency you use, soil conditions etc.
