My Navy buttons
« on: November 12, 2015, 09:35:50 AM »
Don't think I've ever posted my collection of navy buttons, it's not spectacular but I think I have a decent representation of 1750 onwards always hoping to find swap or buy more!

I'm going to make something nice with the doublers  :)

Got this one at Lundie dig lasty year. It's a high ranking officer's button from around the Napoleonic time, and given that the land used to belong to Admiral Duncan there's a strong possibility it's one of his.

I'm afraid it's also a masters button Steve not an admirals one, senior officers buttons didn't have anchors on them at all at this time, they had Tudor style roses on them  ;)

Masters buttons were the ONLY buttons to have the two smaller anchors on the them, however nowadays a Master at arms has the same buttons as others of the same rank.

Haha sorry mate, I believe the two smaller anchors design is due to when pulling up to weigh anchor it was the masters responsibility when to give the order "away anchor for'd away anchor aft"
