Was out last week with spectra testing some new ground and we maybe detected 0.0025% of the land lol on a big historic estate, picture below.

More details will follow.

...plenty of Georgian with a wee bit of 16th century thrown in. Can I have a clear image of the piece below and how thick it is?

Hi Derek I'll what app it to you so I can keep the memory high.

It appears the be poor metal with a layer of gold on top! Maybe a brooch or similar

...yeah, it is interesting as it does show a version of the ribbon bodied interlaced animal style, popular in Anglo Saxon, Viking and early Medieval times? It also appears to have been quite heavily gilded (se marked picture below). I'm not sure of the weight and thickness of it, or if it is indeed chip carved, but it does look crude enough. Could be a fragment of a mount of some sort, such as for a shield, scabbard, or indeed a fragmented buckle? Some examples here: http://www.dirk-kennis.be/Early_Medieval_Art_Anglo-Saxon.html and here: http://www.dirk-kennis.be/Early_Medieval_Art_Carolingian.html

...as advised, send a picture off to TT and see what they say. It could be ancient or a more modern reproduction?

Hi all,

TT have said:

"Thanks very much for this- the object top left in the shape of a cocked hat above the cannon is an Insular mount, 7th-8th century AD. This is a hugely significant find. You also have the trigger guard (squashed, top right)"

More information about the rally will be posted soon, as I'm attending a meeting with the owner to look at the logistics. It's likely to be a limited numbers rally purely due to logistics. (Parking) however a newsletter will be released soon with booking details of the final arrangements fall into place. All regular attendees I'm sure will be accommodated perhaps at the expense of pay on the day spaces.

As always however we aim to be inclusive and will look at any way possible we don't have to limit numbers.

I'll do my best  :)

Yep well done to Derek for being bang on!!!!  :) :) :)

It was quite exciting for Jim and myself as being on land which REALLY is undetected is rare!

I was delighted with the coin weight lol never mind the older items!

There is also a mill ruin, an exposed cellar, dovecote and too many features to mention so I suppose I better get working to iron out all the rally issues  ;D

Cannae wait  ;D
