Buying a machine from overseas
« on: March 20, 2016, 02:07:16 AM »
Just wondering if anyone ordered a detector from overseas and if so did they have to pay import tax and vat?
I am thinking of ordering one from France but don't want to get stung with 20% vat and import tax

Cheers Niall

Havent bought a detector from overseas. I think you maybe liable for uk vat and "extra" charges as well, if its over a certain price. But the supplier may be able to sell it to you ex vat from their country maybe worth checking.
Also watch out for warranty , and the charger plug maybe different altho u can sort that with an adapter.

I don't think you have to play any import tax from France add it's part of the European Union at the moment but things might change if we leave

I have ordered a couple from America before and had to pay import tax, still cheaper than here though.
Not sure about ordering from EU.

2. Arrivals from EU countries

You don’t pay duty or tax on goods you bring in from the European Union (EU) as long as you:
transport them yourself
will use them yourself or give them away as a gift
have paid duty and tax in the country where you bought them

Totally agree with Scotty here, you'll also get a discount if you ask and more importantly you'll know your buying the real deal. :)

Haggy give Nigel at Regtons a wee call I'm sure he'll do you a deal. I personally don't buy from foreign countries as I like peace of mind when I'm spending that kind of money, knowing that if I do encounter any problems, they'll be sorted from a reputable supplier. You don't know who your dealing with when you buy from abroad.

I presume it's a Deus if it's from France. l bought one from Regtons last year and asked for a price match ,no probs and ended up with a top of range detector ....11 inch coil ws5 phones etc for 1100 ish....  so don't see the point of buying abroad You may save a few quid but it won't be a massive saving , and as the man says buy in UK to support our shops . All you need is the bottle to speak up about a deal ! ,but they never gave me any hassle at all !
