On the beach today
« on: June 13, 2016, 04:43:38 PM »
Well the army were not using Buddon firing ranges today so I took our wee spaniel Phoebe for a great walk way past Monifieth.  I found this wee pipe bowl.  Thought at first it was made of wood then using great intelligence I realized having a wooden pipe would not be very clever.  Could not resist sticking my finger into the bowl and was surprised to see the result on my finger.  Jings, it's been in the Tay estuary for 100 years and still full of carbon black!
Howard.

Nice one Howard!  Mind you, pipes were usually made of cherry wood in more recent times.  I used to smoke the pipe  -  happy days! I loved the smell of pipe tobacco.

So did my father in law - he smoked it in his roll yer own ciggies.  It killed him eventually.

Bob.

Nice find Howard. I remember many years ago when I dug bottle dumps I found the bowl of a clay pipe that still had strands of half burnt tobacco in it. ;D

Howard.
pipes were also made of wood, called a briar pipe and still available today.
