Detecting Local History
« on: June 22, 2016, 12:05:13 AM »

Years ago, local history in the UK was generally the preserve of retired colonels, country parsons and gentlemen farmers … but all that has changed. Some of us now welcome the metal detectorist!

...lovely article John, do you know if the collection is still on display at the museum it was left to?

No I don't, but I understand that the Bowes Museum at Barnard Castle also received some of Bob's stuff.

A fascinating article John and what a waste of talent. Like many men of his era, he probably had little choice in going to the pits and under different circumstances, who knows what he could have achieved. My own grandfather started in the pit when he was twelve years old and was an an excellent self taught artist.
