Alistair was elated, but then disappointed to realise he’d found a counterfeit coin.
On learning that forgeries of this period were probably more interesting than the real thing, Alistair executed another victory dance!

Good post.  Puts forgeries into perspective.  Poor sods if they were caught though!

When I was a young cop being taught the laws of the country I was astonished at the disparity between the penalties for crimes against the landowners and the Crown (VERY severe and quite draconian) as opposed to those against the person of the ordinary man, including depradations on his property (very limited and low priority).

Not much has changed!

Coin update
I handed the coin into it TT this afternoon and Natasha seemed very happy to have it.
I will receive a report on it in due course.
Another update on the German Spoof Iron Cross found in Houston with CS, it has also been claimed and will be discussed at a future meeting.
