That heart stopping moment
« on: December 30, 2016, 05:06:57 PM »
Out today and second signal I got a silver ...... thought I'd spaded it at first ( close shave ) and also that it might have been hammered ( poor eyesight and daylight honest ) lol.
Well after bending down to pull it off the spade it became apparent it wasn't hammered but what was it ? a silver shilling from 1723  ( George 1st ) no detail on the front and for the eagle eyed you can just make out the year  ;)

Followed this up with a 1942 George 5th shilling so 2 silver shillings today  ;D

Roll on 2017  ;D ;)

Not a bad way to close out the year.

I think you'll be unearthing a Sovereign or Half Sovereign soon...

Remember where you heard it first, when it happens!

Could your 1942 shilling possibly be George VI? I thought George V died January 1936?
