Today my son in Auchterarder found this in his garden. Well, his dog did. I expect it is modern but any thoughts guys 'n gals?
It's about half a metre long. Traces of wood at the grip end.

I think it is a butchers stack knife.

Machete or steak knife. The butcher's steak knife idea, not so sure, I think it would have been stainless steel? However it does look like the correct shape. Also looks like a machete, ah well probably never know for sure. His dog dug it up from the garden then kindly deposited it on the gravel

Looks like the bladed part of a gargening implement known in Scots as a 'schuch' which was used for chopping the 'schaws and roots of turnips etc. It had a wooden handle.

There was two types of schuchs way back. One had a straight blade with a hook on the end, and the other type was half mooned shape. I used both types when my Dad took me to the neeps shawing .
