A wee chunk of silver

I found this little piece of silver a few days ago on a friend's permission.  I guess it must be some kind of brooch but I would welcome any better ideas.  It is 40mm left to right and there are no hallmarks.  Curious little buckle shape bottom right side.

Nice find Howard. I think it's a Victorian era brooch and may well have been enamelled or set with stones like this one which is  a very similar design...
