Silver brooch from Sunday, Edzell dig
« on: December 03, 2018, 06:09:06 PM »
Nae hammies or roman for me, but was delighted to get this brooch on the big afternoon field. A silver saltire on the weekend of StAndrews day, perfect lol. Approx 4 cm across, nice chunky brooch.
M Rettie and sons traded in Aberdeen between 1824 and 1892, and were better known for using local granite set in their jewellery, and using Scottish provincial silver.
Apologies for huge pics, cant resize from my phone.
Elly x

Wha a great piece of Scottish jewellery, you can take this to a keeper and have it restored if you want n I think it’d mar a great momento or even a Christmas prezzy

Such a lovely brooch; such a rotten shame... Might indeed be worth considering restoration one day... Queen Victoria commissioned work from Rettie... Great find! :D
