Best from my first two years of detecting
« on: March 01, 2019, 03:11:15 PM »
Well I have been thoroughly enjoying my detecting since I took it up properly 2 years ago.

Most detecting days are probably similar to everyone else’s – lots of trash, the odd huge bit of iron, plenty of coke (at least with my new Deus!) and the occasional coin. Sometimes it feels like a wasted day and it can be a bit frustrating when nothing good comes up.

With this in mind I thought I would put together all the nice stuff I have found and to be honest when it is all together it makes all of those cold, muddy and unproductive days seem well worth the effort.

So below are some pics showing the coins that I am particularly proud of. They were all found separately and across a wide variety of fields (and a couple on DS digs last year), but they paint an interesting picture of the broad area where I have been able to detect.

Apologies for the rubbish pics - I really should try to take some better ones at some point.

Lots of other interesting bits and bobs too. I do also like a nice musket ball I must say. What a great hobby and it is great to be part of this community, despite not being able to get to that many digs recently.

Anything Roman or Bronze age has elluded me but I guess that's no surprise - I live in hope though.

Comments welcome.

Thanks.

The cases were pretty cheap so I thought I'd give them a try. All in all pretty decent really. Tons to chose from but few that were big enough for the half crowns.
