New to detecting
« on: April 15, 2019, 11:45:52 PM »
Hi folks. I’m Kev, been on the outside looking in for a little while but decided it’s finally time to make the leap. Looking to buy my first detector this week and head out into the fields. I’ve had a bit of a look over some of the forum posts & pictures and must say I can’t wait to get started. Haven’t gotten any permission as of yet but hopefully by sat-sun I’ll get something sorted, any advice on softening up land owners to grant permission would be much appreciated. Or if anyone wouldn’t mind showing a new guy the ropes I’d be willing to travel. Does the club still do organised digs?

Cheers Kev

My tactics for getting land

Dress smart
Be polite
Don’t let “can I detect your fields” be the first thing out of your mouth....
Is there a fancy looking herd of cattle ask about them and then get matter of factlynto your reason for visiting.
If your job involves a uniform WEAR IT
If your profession is something beneficial to a farmer mention it

There’s are other things only sociopaths and body language mimics can do but that’s a bit complicated for this post...
Oh look! another arsehole ;-) (people watching the professional beggars round central station)
