Odd silver - any ideas?
« on: May 01, 2019, 09:44:08 AM »
Hi folks,

Pulled this little silver out of a ploughed field yesterday and was wondering what it was.

20mm across. Looke like a very worn coin that has been stamped.

Is this an example of a Slab token as described by John Winter in this link?

http://www.johnwinter.net/jw/2016/11/a-little-slab-tickle-then-slap/

Here it is:-

Any ideas how old it might be?

My buddy pulled out a very worn William III sixpence on the same field so there is some history in it at any rate.

Interestingly both were bent in exactly the same way. Love tokens? I also read that some coins of this era were deliberately bent to see if they were real or fake / plated. I gather the plate flakes off if bent, and the fakes were harder to bend.
