Unknown first Hammered
« on: August 14, 2010, 02:21:35 PM »
Was wondering if anybody could id this hammered coin...I've tried looking up the inter-web and the only one that kind of resembles it is a Mary 1st groat(1553-54).Coin is in terrible condition, but it's priceless to me as it's my first hammy.  ;D
Hope someone can help.

Thanx Morayhunter...Unfortunately the other side is really worn away, and can't really see nothing on it,and tried taking pic with my other camera, but couldn't see anything with it.This is the best image i could get.

Congratulation on you first ever hammered coin find. I've found a few similarly very thin hammered coins with the same amount of detail from around the same period as your example.Just well used coins that exchanged hands often and became very thin as a result.I've never found a Mary coin other than Mary Queen "o" Scots, so you have found one more MARY than I have CONGRATULATIONS !!!.

Well done on your first hammered. The first is the one you'll never forget. There's more hammerds come out the ground in that condition than fine ones. :)
Beep Beep. What's it going to be this time.
