sweetheart brooches are like buses .
« on: October 18, 2012, 11:08:52 AM »
Found another sweetheart brooch today on the same field as the one I found a couple of days ago.
Sadly not silver this time,  but still retaining a tiny amount of the original enameling, and the attachments for a swivel pin fitting are visible.
This one is the crest of the Royal Scots fusiliers.
Its a shame its pretty much gone the way of a lot of metal items in the soil around here.  :-\

I had never found one up until a few days ago and now this is the second, long may it continue.  :)
Maybe the farmers daughter was free and easy with her affections and there are more there for the finding. ;D

The fittings on the back are not the usual loops for a pin Grant,  its a brooch style fitting, ie a swivel pin and a loop, a bit dainty for army issue.
Also , Im not sure that beret badges were enameled ? , All the examples I can find online are plain pressed copper, and undecorated ?

But hey, I could be wrong. It might well be a beret badge   :)

Nice wee find! Hope there's more waiting for you! I presume all fusiliers went with that flaming grenade style of badge? I got the Inniskilling one, your Royal Scots and a guy left a comment on my vid saying it looked similar to his Welsh fusiliers badge. Just a thought, might be talking mince!

Hehe, '..too dainty for army issue'

Cheers guys,   Ive had a few nice wee military related bits from that field ,

Max, its just a fusiliers thing right enough, the grenade. Yours is definitely Inniskilling, there were at one point nine fusilier regiments in the British army.

Adrian,  its true enough about finding something, then going on a run of finding more of the same. With me its non-ferrous crap, I first found some in the 1980's and Ive been finding it ever since  ;D

A gold sweetheart brooch would be nice Scotty,  but I imagine the young lady would have to have been very free with her charms and favours to merit a keepsake like that. Mind you its from a local farm, and the lassies around here...well, what can I say. :o
