Recent find , material brass/bronze alloy ,thistle to the top & crown to the bottom ,it pivots in the middle , never seen anything like it anyone any ideas ?

The object you have here is part of a 19th century decorative brass from a  horse harness. I’ve attached some examples for you which have the same idea. I think the Crown and Thistle were quite popular motifs.

I could see that sitting on my desk and hanging newly tied fishing flies on it for the varnish to dry.

Alternatively it would make a great airgun target - imagine the fun as it spins around when you hit it.   ;D ;)
