Title: Deteknix X-Pointer review UPDATED
Post by: Grant on November 05, 2015, 08:51:32 AM
Yesterday I had the opportunity to try an X pointer straight out of the box.

(http://i496.photobucket.com/albums/rr321/10oct89/Mobile%20Uploads/CB4251C9-3725-48C5-BF78-D4CC47AE7B71_zpsnvbmacrh.jpg) (http://s496.photobucket.com/user/10oct89/media/Mobile%20Uploads/CB4251C9-3725-48C5-BF78-D4CC47AE7B71_zpsnvbmacrh.jpg.html)

This is the only non Garrett probe I've tried in a few years and I think the result will surprise a few people.

Watch this space for the review coming up.

HERE!

You could be forgiven for thinking the deteknix X-pointer is just a cheaper version of the Garret pro pointer but you'd be wrong!

With variable sensitivity and tone only found in Garrets more expensive model the AT at double the cost of the X-pointer its clear right from the off that deteknix have set out to give you much more for less!

With a choice of colours and a handy retaining leash already included in the price even Spectra would be hard pushed to lose this one! Assuming of course he remembered to attach the handy clip on the retaining leash to something!!

The one I had for testing is the standard black version with matching retaining lead which is nice as the probe I already use didn't  have one resulting in my utilisation of a dead mans cord from one of my outboard engines!

(http://i496.photobucket.com/albums/rr321/10oct89/Mobile%20Uploads/764954FB-419C-4A75-8C49-0D46FBA3B195_zpsc4cmmzhh.jpg) (http://s496.photobucket.com/user/10oct89/media/Mobile%20Uploads/764954FB-419C-4A75-8C49-0D46FBA3B195_zpsc4cmmzhh.jpg.html)

At its most sensitive setting in tests it detected most targets at very similar distances to the other probe (AT) I was carrying at the time although the altering of the sensitivity takes a little getting used to. With both audible and vibration indication it does everything you would expect from a quality piece of kit! In fact it seems to be more sensitive in the case of smaller targets which I really liked!

I've been told that they don't detect Coke which is something I wasn't able to test as neither does my detector! However I can see how this might be a slight issue if your detector does but your probe doesn't!

If I was to really try to find a negative it would be that it feels more lightweight to current market leaders but this really is scraping the bottom of the negativity barrel.

In a nutshell, the Deteknix X-pointer will cost you about £30 less than a Pro Pointer and half the price of an AT, despite this it will perform just as well as the aforementioned and comes with its own retaining system already attached!

Had mine for a year now, great bit of kit and more accurate than the Garret, as Budge says the Garret for back up only....

I suppose that is one of the problems in getting old Jim ;D ;D ;D. I had to put a bit of tape over my speaker to lower the volume a bit.

Rap a bit of electrical tape round the probe and over the button, it will slide into the holster without catching.

I 'think' there's been a redesign of the buttons at some point or maybe I dreamt it lol

I mentioned to you at the Glasgow dig that as far as I’m aware the Chinese manufacturer changed the button design/shape without confirming it with Deteknix. The first wave of the e-pointer has a flush button; the second wave had an edge that slightly protrudes above the body of the probe and can catch the button on the holster. The only reason I know this is I bought Supermoleman one for his birthday and he lost a button. The guys at Deteknix explained the issue, apologised and sent half a dozen spare buttons to us.  Just in case wrap electrical tape round the button nearest the light.

Indiana ;).
