I was going to ask for an id but think I've sussed it, it looks very much like a button from the 3rd Cuirassier Regiment, according to google anyhow, wiki says they were sent to Spain 1807

300 years is the report in time threshold mate but Natasha in particular has an interest in military movements so it's worth sending them a photo and 6 fig grid ref or google earth map screen capture

...Dave is based in Spain Grant and this is where the button was found - I don't think Natasha has jurisdiction over there yet ;) ;D ;D ;D

...top find Dave mate, well done indeed!! And it would be worth reporting as at least it would introduce you to the Spanish system for reporting finds and perhaps a friendly archaeologist or two!!
...a belated Merry Christmas Dave and we would love to pay your wee hacienda a visit for a search or two, and trust me, you ain't missing anything in Dumfriesshire as most of it is probably underwater ;D ;D ;D

:D ... lol no probs Grant and ta very much for explaining Derek, all the very best mate and would be great to see you both again, it will almost certainly be drier than that time by Dalbeattie :) ...
I'm currently in touch with an historical association for the area, they recognised it as Napoleonic when I thought it was recent civil war, I'm hoping they will know what to do as I'm still not sure which department to report to and a lot of people here think it's still completely illegal, still very sensitive about it, but next door have said they know someone at a museum in Gandesa who is very friendly, hopefully we can take my finds and they'll translate for me.
Thanks very much again peeps, all the very best and have a great Hogmanay :) :D ;D
