...very nice cut half, well done indeed!! I thought this may be tricky, but it worked out okay. It is a Henry III short cross (1216-47), class 7b, Mint: Canterbury, Moneyer: IOAN CHIC or IOAN F.R., Spink 1356B.

...the larger lettering gives us a clue it is probably Henry III, and the first three letters of the moneyer's name are visible on the reverse 'IOA'. This can only be the spelling for the name IOAN, and the letter 'A' has a square top, thus it must be a 7b. Both the moneyers listed above worked out of the Canterbury mint, thus it must have been made in Canterbury, as there is no other minting from an IOAN in any other mint for Henry III. The two moneyers only produced class 7b and 7c, and as 7b alone has the square topped 'A', it must be this class and subclass.

Thanks for the ID and information... My Garrett 150 finds hammered coins, but my Minelab does not.. Dont know whats going on there..  I have found more with the £130 garret than the £600 minelab..   :(

hi phil I have a 705 and have not had any success with hammies so I borrowed one from a buddy  reduced my sensitivity settings  for pasture approx. 16 and  put the threshold on till I could just hear it on programme 1 and low and behold a slight  bleep one hammie found about 5 inches down they don't make a lot of noise with the xterras so listen carefully gold is a different matter altogether a nice crisp bing davie
