Title: May be helpful to newer forum members x
Post by: EleanorF on March 12, 2019, 06:12:45 PM
Have reposted this (an oldie by Grant) as there are a lot of new forum members, and folk new to digs asking how the day goes..

. This guide is designed simply to prevent any problems regarding upsets to farmers or causing a ruck on the ground!!

1. Arrive in good time, but not before instructed,  and listen carefully to the organisers brief.
2. Don't stray onto land outwith the boundaries given at the brief.
3. ALWAYS fill in any holes, preferrably with any turf or seedlings upwards, any special instructions will be given during the brief.
4. Don't leave unwanted finds either in the hole or on the land (take them with you)
5. Don't leave gates open or damage fences climbing over them.
6. Don't give any unneccesary attention to liestock.
7. Use earphones so as not to disturb others.
8. Members attending a DS rally/dig are responsible for reporting any finds they make at the rally/dig , to the TTU.
9. Consider Person liability insurance!

Over to you guys

I would add..
If you add your name to a dig thread or msg Grant or Jim (afgingram) , you will get dig directions by Sat evening. They will include start time , arrival time , and any relevant special instructions from the farmer.
Once parked, your dig fee (currently still a tenner) is paid to Grant (tall silver fox type in a highly unsuitable vehicle usually 😂) or if he is AWOL , Jim (tall, dark, crabbit, chocolate astra) , his ginger burd however is REALLY nice ..😂🙈.
There will be a group "shout" with instructions on fields for the day.
Its usually dig till dark unless told otherwise.
Please please show off your finds. Everyone loves to see them. If you struggle with posting pics, get Grant or Jim to take pics.
Fill yer holes.

Anyone else with any advice to add?
Go for it ! Xx

Good points.

If anyone needs personal liability insurance you can get it for a year at a time, only £8, by joining the National Council for Metal Detecting (NCMD) https://www.ncmd.co.uk/membership/scotland/

Please would all detectorists have a bag for there finds good or bad and take it home for the bin. Large bits of iron can be left at the field margins but NEVER in field.
