Title: A Golden Wee Moment at the DS Rally No 5 in Kinross
Post by: joe98 on June 20, 2011, 02:27:47 PM
:)Hi Folks

Just to say a big thanks to the Admin team and Lucky as well for yet again another enjoyable great day out.

Terrific scenery and great company as well as the weather making a better appearance this time round.

Didn't find anything of note myself until late in the afternoon.

Having a shot of Heart of Lothian's Fisher F75 and concentrating on the edge of the field I received an iffy signal at five inches.

A few seconds later I was holding a wee piece of gold which at first I took to be a silver ring that was sticking out the side of the earth I dug up.

But it turned out to be a wee swivel fob pendant similar to that of a seal that had come from from an Albert Watch chain.

One side has a stone that looks green in colour with specks of red in it and the other side has a very interesting inscription to a Rev. A. Brown there is also a date for the 31st of December 1891.

The funny thing is I was right in line with the old Church where I found the object.

Quite an interesting find from a local history point of view and one worth researching.

Great Rally guys

Thank's again

 :) Hi Folks

Thank's for all the comments about the little fob it is a cracking unusual artefact.

I will try and have a go at researching the piece in particular the Reverend Brown.

One thing I would like to do is perhaps pass it on to any family descendants if they can be traced?

Alternatively hand it over to the local Church if they have a facility for such an artefact.

For although it is a gold object there isn't the same sort of collective factor about it as you would find with coins and earlier artefacts.

So I don't mind doing something constructive with this particular find.

I would be open to all your views on the subject as well?

What a great find Joe and I think it would be a fantastic & unselfish gesture to pass it over to any descendants or indeed the Church itself.

This can only highlight what a great hobby & indeed forum we have to the members of the general public.

Nothing beats a bit of Gold  ;D

I've sent you a PM Joe and put my own thoughts forward. Its a truely  lovely find to have made, clearly with local association, as are the two Portmoak communion tokens and the W. Barclay Milnathort saddlers badges. Portmoak Church had a minister named the reverend John Campbell Brown from 1881ad until about 1905ad. He could have been related to your reverend A. Brown. The date on the fob would suggest this. Can I just add your thoughts on what should happen to the fob are precious. What an example you set for our forum members to follow.

 :)Hi Guys

Thanks Swed49 for the link I have just saved into my favourites and will do some swatting up on Rev .A. Brown asap.

I'll try and put a little something together for Shug for a forthcoming issue of "Up Your Kilt," as well.

And thanks Slider yip I think that there is no harm in contributing to the local history of a Parish whenever is possible.

Keep at it Placid determination or not its the patience that you have to have as well but thankfully you have the technology to do so better nowadays for when I started it took me seven years to find my first hammered penny.

That was a thousand years ago!

So Keep at it though you will get there.

Joe ;)

Lovely find  :o :o

Like your idea of possibly re-uniting the item with the family of the Rev. Brown, or his church, too.  Well found :)
