Title: Out with the T2 :)
Post by: jagsteve on October 11, 2012, 06:47:26 PM
Managed out for 3 or 4 hours today and thoroughly enjoyed it  :D
I think I came home with more than I normally do so it was a good day!
Few coppers, couple of buttons, musketball and my first watchwinder.

Also, the day wouldn't be complete without a mystery item! Any ideas as to the original function of this?? The handle part is round and the flat bit is...flat :)

I thought about it magic but i'm pretty attached to it, its one machine that i know if there is something there i will find it, I know its every quirk and tone, besides that its not a pretty machine - i taped it all up to protect it, but if you do go for a safari let me know and i'll tell you how to set it up for maximum gains :)

Now then Rob, how can I put this to make it as painless as possible for you !    LOL.

Lets just say, Shug and I in the front of the pickup were very jolly, and having a good laugh on the way back home , and the backseat Minelab users were very quiet.
 The T2's came in with the best finds of the day, my personal finds were;

 2 coins, 1 jetton, 1 celtic/roman buckle, 1 roman nail, 6 buttons, 1 brennik slug.

S6otty realy looks unsure whether to make a purchase !, or buy a T2 !        Lol.

Quit your T2 jibber jabber lol, the minelabs will fight back :P next time we shall prevail (perhaps lol) Bill congrats on that amazing buckle though and Shug on his coin, it was a fantastic day out :) (except for the T2 fanboys slagging us off) lol  :o

I did however find these along with a couple of buttons, possible roman coin? or coin remains of something lol :P

You are correct Rob, you have to cover the object to find it, and some of it comes down to luck.
I should add my first impressions on the  CTX, was good, very good build quality, balance, and I am sure this detector will be a winner, being totaly  waterproof counts for a lot to me, one of my complaints on other detectors.
I am not in the market to purchase a new detector just now being happy with the T2, but its a detector I would definitely consider in the future .

Bill you have pretty well mastered that T2 thats for sure, you should have a wee go with boost and cache mode and see what you think? CTX is indeed a nicely built machine, didn't expect you to be impressed with it with you being a non minelab user and big time T2 fan so cheers for that :P

Really was a good day out and the banter was all good too :P

I think you're right Korky! It's probably been off a really big gate but what I thought was a handle is obviously the latch part. Thank you!

It pretty much stopped raining when I left the house Adrian and started raining as soon as I got home so I was really lucky in that respect, lol.

Hi Mark, it was just the standard "Green Goddess" version that I got but if felt good. It's light, very fast switching and very easy to make a dig/no dig decision. The only slight niggle is that the volume level you need while detecting is quite high - which is ok - but when you switch over to pinpoint my god what a racket! People came out of their houses to see what was going on lol. Definitely one for wearing headphones with :) Other than that I miss not having an armstrap (got one ordered from the U.S. though for £1.90 including delivery!). Very highly recommended!

Were you using it WITHOUT headphones?  :o

Hi S&S

Interesting wee buckle can I ask what your design is ?

Has it got like a Serpents Head on it as it kinda reminds me of one I dug up made of Bronze with serpent or dragon's heads on it!

Possibly related?

The one I have may have been a small spur buckle ?

Joe  ;)

Yeah I often have a naked head when I'm out.  :-[

??? Not a good idea lol apart from drawing crowds it drains your battery quicker and is bad etiquette when digging with others  ;)

Great idea  for a bit of fun Bill,   I propose we have a "dig off" Minelab Vs T2's as long as we have the same number of machines on each side. We could then post up the hauls and let the forum decide the winner ? Need a neutral field though - no local knowledge  ;D ;D ;D

 Hi Joe,
The picture you have posted is very alike the one I found, in a smaller size.
What did you find out about  your buckle ?.

 Bill

 :) Hi Bill

The buckle was found in an area that is full of early Medieval History stemming from William the Lion, however there is also a lot of alleged Viking activity that had taken place as well of which there was supposed to have been temporary settlements.

Looking at the Bronze Buckle it does have possible Serpent or Dragon heads on it so may point in that direction of perhaps Viking as opposed to a specific Medieval time?

But yet again there is one other possibility that cannot be ruled out as well and that is maybe of Anglo Saxon origins as well for conceivably these sorts of buckles could have been dropped by Vikings that had raided parts of England?

But I would go along with Viking or Anglo Saxon!

Just my thoughts.

Dave

Standby Rob, the rematch will be soon, was speaking with Barry today, and he was telling me they have started to lift the potatoe field next door to the one we were in, and it is going to be seeded with winter wheat, so there will be a short window to detect it before out of bounds again. It will be a weekday as weekends are out for me just now, with work commitments.

Cracking finds there guys - the buckle is very nice  ;)

Great idea  for a bit of fun Bill,   I propose we have a "dig off" Minelab Vs T2's as long as we have the same number of machines on each side. We could then post up the hauls and let the forum decide the winner ? Need a neutral field though - no local knowledge  ;D ;D ;D

Can i be the token Whites person???!!

like it  ;D ;D ;D
