Hi Derek oor wullie aka Davy asked if I could post this hammered he found today for him , he's had a look at the spinks book but would like a more informed opinion , cheers in advance

Mary groat or half groat, mint mark Fleur de lis 105 or 106 in my sea by book, can't help with anything else sorry

...lovely find. well done!! It is an Elizabeth I sixpence (Rose & Date), intermediate bust with ear showing, mintmark: Coronet (1567), Spink 2562

...the coronet on the obverse is partially obscured by the lettering and quite worn on the reverse, but it is a coronet and not a Lis. It is possible that the original obverse did have a lis mintmark and the coronet was stamped over it, as unissued coins of Elizabeth I were sometimes reused in this way and new mintmarks and dates stamped over older issues that had not seen circulation. This may be the case with yours.

yer no following the risk assesment for photobucket, you need the proper ppe, hard hat,safety boots, dust mask, goggles & gauntlets.

Ahh very interesting, I had thought a Lizzy at first and then looked through the book and saw the Mary, I should stick to my day job lol
