Thanks to those yesterday who gave me info. about this coin that I found.  Apparently it is a Charles I sixpence but so far I have not been able to see it online, in particular showing SCOT on the obverse legend.  Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks Kerr, yes it is the closest I have seen so far.  I can still see very slight differences though.  Thanks for the info.

Could be a half merk, as Kerr suggests.  The coin diameter is measured at 24mm.

Well Done nice coin

WSC-6361:  Scottish Charles 1st Hammered Silver Half Merk.  The rarer third coinage Nicholas Briot machine made Six Shillings & Eightpence: Spink 5773.  However, the 8 under the VI, denoting this coin as being of greater value that the proceeding six shillings (Spink 5566-72), has been partly removed and actually looks to have been gouged out on the actual die to make it back into a Six Shillings (see image).
