A good read that, thanks for posting John. It’s interesting how much information can be gleaned from such a small object.

I’ve always fancied having a look on the Thames foreshore. Next time I’m down that London, I’ll bring ma wellies an ‘av a butchers... plus remembering to bring the extortionate fee of £77 for the ‘Port of London’ permit. Maybe I’ll find a hammered gold, that’ll see me alright... ;D

Most of the artefacts on the foreshore are found 'eyes only' and I believe that you don't need a permit for that. I used a detector once, but it was a waste of time.
